G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
OK... a question (or opinion) for all you KItA's: Do you all ever just make something for the heck of it... because you can... for no particular reason...? I've always been a techie, since the days of playing with a Commodore 64 at the local department store. But I've only really been a "maker" for a few years now, building drones (that I can't really fly too well yet...). Now it's moved to printer enclosures and Steampunk Goggles. So the reason I ask is that after watching the recent episode about surface mount soldering, I decided to get the kit that Padre and Bryan were working on... just for no other reason than to try it out. And for only $8.xx it was sort of a no brainer. I really have no particular use for the meter. but wanted to do it anyway. So do you all ever go through this? Just build for the sake of building? I think building/making is fun... wish I started sooner...
G+_Travis Hershberger
Yes, often.
G+_Jim Hofmann
The simple answer is yes. But more often then not, I look for an excuse to play. Example, I'm working on a timer for a sprinkler. I could buy a $35 replacement. But what fun is that. Instead I spend $35(+) and a lot of hours coding. I actually chose to write in modules, a main, object counter, schedule, zone, and time modules (libraries) to practice using pointers and sharing and storing data. I've learned a lot. The learning is in the doing and I enjoy learning (and sharing) new SHTUFF. :)
G+_David Peach
I make stuff all the time just for the sake of making it. I figure I'm learning skills that will help when I'm making something important. It is like practise for the real event. Builds confidence so that I know how to do certain aspects of a bigger project and have fewer things to learn when tackling that bigger project. All these years of playing have really come in handy on real projects.
