Alright, Google & Chromebook, here 's what I want

So, David Pick, what I'm looking for is that "perfect" device.  I'm not trying to find a haus workstation or gaming rig.  I currently have a Chrombook, and I use it a lot.  It has replaced my Nexus7 as the "quick-grab" device in the living room and bedroom.  It's what I use to watch movies after the wife is asleep (the TV keeps her up).  It's a spectacular device, but my Acer C720 feels kinda cheap and certainly isn't very stylish.

What I want is a laptop with all the style of a MacBook Air, but with the super-fast boot of a Chromebook.  The touch interface is showing its head in all sorts of places, and when you have it, there are always times when it's actually easier to touch than to use a touchpad or mouse.

So while I would like to use Linux, you're not getting ChromeOS boot speeds from Linux, at least not from the kind of hardware that would go into a system the size of a MacBook Air.

Mathis Sneed Hi Mathis, I don't know an exact machine to recommend yet. Maybe someone else in the community has experience with Chrome OS and can tell you what specific model to purchase.

All I can tell you if you want a fast boot time, you want a machine with an SSD for the operating system to be stored on. Most low end machines still come with an hard drive.

I just upgraded an going on 3 year old Sony VAIO core I3 laptop from an 500 GB Hiatachi hard drive to a Sandisk 256GB SSD. The performance difference is night and day in boot time.

With either Windows 10 Technical Preview or Ubuntu 14.04.1 Mate desktop, the boot time from boot loader to login is 3 seconds.

I see the HP Stream 11 for $200.00, comes with windows 8.1.And its stored on a 32gb SSD. I just remember a joke Paul Thurrott said last year about Chrome OS on Windows Weekly when Leo said he bought the $1500 Chrome Book Pixel. "You know what else will run Chrome? Everything else".

Unfortunately, the Microsoft Surface RT tablet I have never will. Because Google refused to develop a limited browser for a device Microsoft wouldn't release the locked hardware for outside developers to optimize for.
