Looking for a video option for the car.  I have a Nexus7 & Evo4GLTE, my wife has an iPhone & iPad.  Would be nice to have a way to stream from any device to some sort of monitor attached to a headrest for our daughter.  1)  Any sugestions on how to attack the streatming? 2) Any sugestions on a display?  Thanks!

I was thinking of doing something similar, but haven't found a great solution... yet.

One idea that just came to mind would be to use SlingBox.  I cannot verify that this works, but this is what you would need:

- A device that supports HDMI out (the Evo4GLTE and Nexus 7 fit the bill with MHL, and I'm sure there is some way for the iPhone/iPad to do the same)

- SlingBox 500*

- WiFi HotSpot (either via tethering to a phone or a separate device)

- AC Power inverter for the SlingBox

This, in essence, would setup your car as an infotainment center.  My idea was to put a Nexus 7 as the head unit of the car, which would have additional Nexus 7's connect to it (but also act as stand-alone devices), which could be automated using Tasker that when attached to power (i.e. - the car turned on), it launches and connects to the SlingBox.  This would lend itself very nicely with a Ting HotSpot!  Just sayin'! ;-)

Good luck!

* This can also be done with a SlingBox 350, but you would need an HDMI to Component Converter (like this: http://www.amazon.com/Lenkeng-LKV384-Component-Stereo-Converter/dp/B009C4R6PW) as well.

Santos Cardona - You're right.  For some reason, I thought it did.  Apparently there are VNC servers you could use instead of MHL.  It also allows for not having a power inverter.

And, for my kids, using the built-in VES (Video Entertainment System) in the minivan works very well, but is limited in its capabilities.  As I don't drive it all the time, I have to settle on what my wife can handle.  Built-in VES it is!  ;-)
