G+_Kevin Graham
Hey Know It Alls: I have a bit of a difficult challenge and I thought that if I would find a solution anywhere, it might be here. A very little bit of background: I'm a disabled journalist who uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking to write my stories. I record all of my interviews because I don't have the capability of taking notes while on the phone (always asking permission of course). My current process is to use my iPhone on speaker phone and record with Audacity. My problem is I'm about to graduate and hopefully get a job soon. This speakerphone arrangement will not be ideal in an office environment. I've tried taking advantage of the analog hole and plugged a set of earphones between the computer and the phone in the past. However, this requires me to switch between the headset for the phone and Dragon. This is very difficult with my physical limitations. My question is: can any of you come up with a way to record audio while hooked into a headset connected to the phone either by Bluetooth or physically and, at the same time, have it connected to the computer so I can use Dragon for the rest of my daily activities? The recording throws in a big monkey wrench I haven't figured out. If anyone could come up with a solution it would probably be this community. Thanks in advance for any ideas. G+_610GARAGE
Could you hook the phone through the analog ports on your computer and use a usb headset? Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-Audio-478-Stereo-Headset/dp/B005VAORH6
G+_Kevin Graham
Assuming you could hear the phone call at the same time as the headset was plugged in, that might work.
G+_610GARAGE
If you are using windows vista or greater, you can have a primary mic,( the headset) and then have the analog mic enabled, and the listen to mic setting enabled. You can specify which mic audacity will record, whether or not it is primary mic. The only thing I'm not sure about is if you can run two speakers at the same time. Don't know about macs though. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Check out the Plantronics Blackwire 720 headset I reviews back in Episode 72 of "Before You Buy" -- USB + Bluetooth.
G+_Kevin Graham
Thank you all for your suggestions. I've been looking to solve this problem for a few years and the answer was the analog hole and a check box for listening to the mic port through my headset. Windows has too many obscure settings. I can't thank you all enough.
G+_Kevin Graham
Marcelo- Sorry I didn't see this before. Thanks for the suggestion. I think for right now I'm going to keep using the analog hole now than I know how to route the other end through my USB headset, but I definitely see the advantages of this if I'm ever on the road for any period of time. Right now, I'm mostly always by my computer. Thanks everyone.
