With all this talk about everything being in the cloud I would like to know what's being done to help us that are on satellite internet. I have a data cap of only 10 gigs a month. There's nothing coming to my neck of the woods in the form of cable or DSL

even though I only live minutes from big cities and towns that have such internet available to them. Why are major ISP's dragging their feet in hooking us rural tech heads up? Right now from my seat I think such things as having to be connected to the net to play a game or other things that had no such requirements in the past is awful. To have to choose a place depending on whether you have cable or DSL feels like I'm being held hostage on where I can live. I don't live in a remote back country where there is no electricity. I live just outside of town. I would like to get some input from the twit heads and the community on what can be done so us rural residents don't get left behind.

This is a pretty common problem with cloud all around.  Internet traffic speeds, connection availability, bandwith caps...  We, as a country, just aren't there yet, and it seems like sometimes we're moving in the wrong direction.

If Google (and other companies) really want to push this cloud option, they need to get their fiber or public WiFi spread across the country.  And quick.  Unfortunately, their deal with Verizon last year doesn't bode well for us consumers.

The biggest thing that im seeing is that on all these show they are talking more and more about services that used to be on the client side are now progressing to the cloud, and new tech that is coming out, as well as these hooks that you need to have an internet connection to use them is scary because myself (as well as anyone else that is on Satellite or a data capped phone) can't use these services because we don't have the resources to do it.

I have to wait to update my apps on my phone until I go into work because my cell signal is so poor that i get less that a 3g connection and dropped calls all the time. I think the first thing that needs to happen is to be able to break the monopoly that a service provider has in the areas that they serve. in my experience where i have lived and live now once someone like Comcast services an area no other cable providers can come in. I would like to vote with my dollar but i can't even do that right now.
