G+_Aashuk Mehta
Latest #twig makes me want to share these points. Of course Google will not leave France, that is laughable. I think it's a good thing that Europe tries to protect the privacy of it's citizens. Privacy, trust in ones government and free speech are essential to a democracy. I do not agree with the French court trying to censor the internet outside of France. I also do not fully support the right to be forgotten. It should only be activated in well studied cases. What makes me sad is that the mass spying of citizens (in the free west), corporations and allies originated in the USA, and Britiain, although I do not know if they started it at that same time. The erosion of trust between the allies which is a certain result of this is far more dangerous than the right to be forgotten. Unfortunately many European countries now started or consider doing the same to their own citizens and likely foreign countries. This is eroding the citizens' trust in their own and foreign governments. In the end all this spying and erosion of privacy and decreasing trust in Governments will promote animosity and distrust between natural allies. It is an illusion to think that you have free speech without privacy.
