I 've heard that if you want a stable Skype connection, it 's best to define a specific port on...

i believe they have already set this up. it is best to open certain ports on your router for skype to communicate best just like any internet service that is connecting to you. upnp is a security flaw and should not be used and i find it best to open the ports than to rely on upnp.

Well i do this under the QOS ( quality of service ) i give out a higher Priority this if you use a  wireless router via a phone as a example  . If you assign a port it is better . But i don't know if port arrangement . Hope it helps . Any one is welcome to add my idea .

Micheal Yes mostly depends on the Wireless Router .

i have two routers to spread the WIFI coverage the Old Router is D Link DSL-2640U it's 54 mbps and the newer router is Buffalo WCR G 300 this has 300 Mpbs .

Using Wcr g300 i was able to do pretty clear Skype call along with the QOS rule i mentioned earlier .

Right now, I'm running time capsule as my main router. Our cable Internet connection and modem are located upstairs in our house. Have a studio in the basement that I actually ran a hard wire Ethernet connection down from the time capsule to ANOTHER router which is a DLINK. The studio has Ethernet in the walls. Had that put in when I had the space built out. It's two rooms dividing up approximately 1500 sq feet. I Mis-placed a barracuda router that I really want to use down there instead of the DLINK. Eventually I want to run a separate cable connection from the street to the house for just the studio itself.

I shut the wireless radio off of the DLINK as it was causing issues with the time capsule. I Used a apple airport express as an AP in the basement studio for tablets and such. That seems to be working fine. Tried some Skype calls from a iMac down in studio over wifi but as I said, it broke up a lot. I haven't tried the direct connection as of yet, but I'm expecting a better result I hope. That's why I asked about isolating a port.

I'm afraid to go with Comcast business class Internet because they never guarantee any speed. They Always say "up to" some number. I don't want to pay for imaginary speeds. Fiber still isn't an option here yet. I'm jealous of Andy innako's Verizon FIOS connection. That's what I really need here for broadcast.
