G+_Bill Pierce
Hi Cranky Hippo and Fr. Ballecer. I just watched show number 104 (catching up from vacation) about Remote Desktop. As a Data Center Manager, this is a tool that I use all the time. The way I use RDP is via Remote Desktop Connection Manager. This tool allows me to open multiple RDP sessions and switch back and forth between them. It also saves my settings and will propagate the settings (like username and password or display settings) within a group of servers. You can find the tool at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21101 . Thanks for the podcast and all the hard work. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21101

G+_Ben Reese
Kenneth Branch jr team viewer and Windows RDP are different animals. If I remember right, team viewer can be connected without changing anything on the router. If you wanted that ability with RDP you would have to setup port forwarding or a VPN into her network. The port forwarding option isn't really advisable since it could allow hackers in easier, but setting up a VPN isn't a task for most users... For helping your mother, team viewer might be the best option.
G+_Bill Pierce
I agree with Ben, these are different animals. I actually use Team Viewer for my home PCs and my Dad's and it works great. But you have to be willing to give up some security in order to use it. RDP is easy to block from external access by setting your Internet firewall to not allow port 3389. Each team viewer computer is set to a different IP port which makes it much more difficult to block from an enterprise point of view.
