So I have a home network going on that I have been playing with. It starts with a MiFi hotspot, that goes to a client bridge (WRT54G with DDWRT). This takes care of my ethernet connections.

I would like to be able to use this network offline since a primary function is to transfer TiVo shows to a desktop for processing. However if I shut down the MiFi I lose the network since there is no gateway.

Is there a way to put in a 'dummy' gateway?

My perfect setup would be for my WRT54G to access in this order...

1. 4G unlimited data hotspot from my phone

2. MiFi limited data hotspot for low data functions like TiVo data fetch, document sync and the like..

3. Fake Gateway when neither are operating that simply synchronizes the internal files from my TiVo to my Desktop to my Tablets that are all within this virtual network.

Fr. Robert mentioned a NAT table he set up in #312 that kept everything offline. Is that the answer?

Thanks!

Reconfig the ddwrt to be the dhcp and gateway for your lan.(use 192.168.2.1) from there config the bridge through firewall(wan side 192.168.1.254) to mifi.(i assume mifi is 192.168.1.1)

I use a similar setup(part of the 'three dumb router' setup suggested by Steve Gibson of grc). If the first router dies or gets owned the second router keeps servicing the lan.
