G+_Ed Lazarus (thegrayarea
Looking for a recommendation on a Gigabit wireless access point, i don't need it to handle any ip addressing because its going to be connected to an existing router. thanks
G+_Travis Hershberger
If you already have a router and can run a wire to where you'd like the wireless to be then I'd skip another router and go with a www.ubnt.com access point.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
How many devices will be connected to it? How large an area must it serve? Is it an open area, or are there many walls and floors? - If the latter, what are those walls and floors made of? Will you be in a RF-congested area? How much throughput do you need? What is your budget?
G+_Ed Lazarus (thegrayarea
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ it's a 2 story town home, my home office is the front room up stairs and the entertainment area is downstairs in the back of the house, the whole place is 1300 sq ft. probably just the normal devices will be connected my chromecast my macbook ipad & smart phone everything else is connected via the gigabit switch, and the ethernet is being brought down stair by a TP-LINK TL-PA511 KIT AV500 Powerline Gigabit becasue when trying to stream a video across the wifi it would freeze and buffer. i've thought about getting a new router one with antennas on it because the one i have hooked up now is a linksys with no antennas. What i am trying to do is boost the data copy speed from my ubuntu nas to my devices when i am downstairs. right now i am gettnig freezing and buffering on some video and is seems slower then when i am in the office upstairs copying or viewing the files across the network. I am big fan of wired, and all my devices that have ethernet ports are wired. I am in a row style home with neighbors on each side of me and i am picking up my neighbors wifi. looking to stay under $100. in the past i have set up an engenius POE access point but i haven't seen one that does gigabit with in my budget. If you can think of a better way for me to setup everything your advice is appricated. Thanks in advance Ed (thegrayarea)
