I think the main point everyone is freaking out about is that the 5c is just a 5 with a hat, that it isn't an ipod mini-iPhone. There is no new market that it appeals to. It's just a same priced replacement for an slightly better phone. You don't create a high-end device market by making your mid-range look worse. The 5s is more than enough to establish itself as high-end to the techies, it fails because its stands on specs that the public doesn't understand. They had to create a visual distinction between the high-end and the mid-range, thus the Gold on the 5s and the colors on the 5c. Smoke and mirrors.
