G+_Jonathan Olin
Just got my Monoprice Maker Select v2 - had some issues getting the bed leveled, but I've been able to print a few things. I'm wondering if my prints should be looking like this with 100% infill. I'm using Cura for slicing. Just seems like it's a little spotty.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Don't do 100% infil. I almost never get decent results at anything about 70%
G+_Jonathan Olin
Ok, I'll try lowering the infill. Also seems like maybe my temperature and or speed is off. I let the print finish and instead of clean flat layers it's got a weird sponge-like texture and it seems to go in a spiral pattern. I'm using Hatchbox PLA. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Yup... remember that the filament will expand when hot, then contract as it cools. If it's 100% infill, that flexing material has no way to bend. If you REALLY want to do 100%, you need to use REALLY fine layers and REALLY low speed. (Which I almost never do)
G+_Tony Martin
First congratulations on your printer, you are in for a lot of enjoyable frustration. Hatchbox is my goto brand these days, it prints quite well. You print has many things going wrong. First, it looks like you printer is under extruding. Symptoms of under extrusion include missing layers, very thin layers or layers that have random dots and holes in them. There are many things that can cause under extrusion. Did you measure the filament and input the proper size into the settings? If not, do that and also check that the filament is not getting hung up on anything and is moving freely all the way from the spool through the extruder. If you have done all of those and your prints do not look any better try adjusting the extrusion multiplier. Here is an example of under extrusion for reference purposes. G+_Jonathan Olin
Thanks Tony Martin I'm pressing forward! Honestly the next thing I tried was going all in on Simplfy3D for my slicer and I can already tell it's about a million times better than Cura. I'm sure Cura could be tuned to do what I need if I knew exactly what I need, but man this same print sliced up with Simplify3D looks awesome so far. G+_David Wiggins
Looks like you'll be getting sponge cake only from the store from now on. Cheers.
G+_Tony Martin
Simpllfy3d is widely considered the best slicer out there right now. However I hear really good things about the new prusa edition of slic3er. Prusa modified the slic3er slicer because he wanted a better slicer to go with the new mk2 prusa i3 printer he released in November.

G+_Tony Martin
That is great glad to see it worked out for you. That print looks great!!! Anyone but a perfectionist would happy getting prints like that, most people I have seen are satisfied with much worse quality than you are now getting.
