G+_Trevor L.
anyone know a good way to setup a WiFi hotspot for hotels that can get chromecast provided the TV has HDMI and the remote will let you get into the menu or input select screen.. i have a $25 amazon gift card looking to get something like that, So we can have a private hotspot i can stream Plex from my android galaxy S7e to a chrome-cast. It seems like there was an episode with something that can do this but I can't seem to find it.. Thanks for your time!
G+_Aaron Kimmins
I think before you get to the hotel you need to pair the Chromecast to your phones hotspot, then mirror cast from phone to Chromecast. Otherwise, as I've found all the time, if it's a sign in WiFi, most all hotels so far, the Chromecast can't sign in since you can't do the sign in. Hence paired to phone
G+_John Mink
This is actually pretty nuisanced, annoyingly. 1) Chromecast is limited in what it can do (eg: it cannot authenticate on a ToS page) 2) Phones are somewhat limited im their WiFi capabilities. I'm unaware of any phone that can both act as a hotspot AND be a client on another WiFi network. 3) You probably don't want to anything on hotel network, as it's shared and easily spoofable. So I think the best approach unfortunately, will require a little (but not alot) of money...and that's to buy a travel router. You should be able to: 1) connect the Chromecast to the travel router beforehand 2) move your phone to the travel router 3) use your phone to bypass thr ToS 4) for extra credit, connect to a VPN from the travel router so that ALL traffic is encrypted over the hotel WiFi and can be decrypted somewhere safer, especially things like Chromecast that can't do a VPN on their own. it's worth noting that a laptop may be able to do this if you're that opposed to buying a travel router. I'm curious if anyone has a simplier approach, but this should work!

G+_Jason Eckelstafer
yeah travel router is the way to go. The other thing you can do is call the hotel's tech support line and have them physically add your MAC address to the allowed list.
G+_John Mink
Jason Eckelstafer? I never thought about it, but is it just MAC filtering? If so, could you spoof your Chromecasts MAC with your phone, authenticate with your phone, then resume the session with the Chromecast? Or would your Chromecast need a cookie? G+_David Wiggins
Leo talks about the tiny hardware firewall. TP-Link N300 Wireless Wi-Fi Nano Travel Router with Range Extender/Access Point/Client/Bridge Modes (TL-WR802N) amazon.com - Amazon.com: TP-Link N300 Wireless Wi-Fi Nano Travel Router with Range Extender/Access Point/Client/Bridge Modes (TL-WR802N): Computers & Accessories That may be what you want. Pair the Chromecast to it, and let it connect to the hotel. Edit: I conflated what Leo suggests and something else. Still, the same general idea is the same. G+_Trevor L.
Aaron Kimmins that would only work if I used my phone (4g) and not the WiFi of the Hotel correct?
G+_Trevor L.
I thought Padre had a really nice Travel Router he took to Rome with him, that had a few ports one in and maybe 2-4 out but it may have been a battery bank thinking back, I just know somewhere on one of the TWIT shows there was a really nice looking Portable router perfect for Hotel Stays. G+_Jason Eckelstafer
John Mink that's why a travel router works. The phone or computer accepts the captive portal which makes everything behind it look like a single device on the network.
G+_David Wiggins
Trevor L.? those look pretty nice ( I didn't check reviews). But that's the concept- the device connects to the hotel, and the phone/Chromecast/laptop connect to the device. The tp link and hootoos both do this. At this point it's compare and choose, I think.
