G+_Larry Havenstein
Ok I was looking at the Model Aviation magazine (http://www.modelaircraft.org/publications/ma.aspx) today and an ad had a quad that had ducted fans for the props. Their reason for it was making it more durable and quieter. But this got me thinking about the prop wash/landing issue and how you could use Ducted Fans to fix that problem by directing the prop exhaust. Also it should improve performance a bit by negating the tip vortices of the prop in the wash. Someone with a 3d printer could probably work up a bolt on duct that could be put on each motor to get a ducted fan. I need a 3D printer now. http://www.modelaircraft.org/publications/ma.aspx
G+_Eddie Foy
Padre told me a story at DEFCON of his foray into playing with ducted fans. I think he said something about attempting to use a chain-link fence as a strainer.
G+_Larry Havenstein
I can see how the ducts might catch the wind acting like sails laterally. They may be best on a GPS based multi-rotor.
