G+_Larry Havenstein
This quad is bigger than 55 pounds! http://paleofuture.gizmodo.com/is-this-the-autonomous-taxi-of-our-dreams-1751426309
G+_Eddie Foy
Dual props at knee/thigh height? No thanks. Don't dig the autonomous aspect too much either (maybe in 15 years) But friggin cool nonetheless!
G+_Larry Havenstein
suppose its really an octo-copter.
G+_Larry Havenstein
Would be able to trim trees with it though. I agree its scary on many levels.
G+_610GARAGE
Yea.... no. The problem with quads is there is very little failsafe. A plane can glide without engines. Evan helicopters can land (if given enough height) without power. Quads turn into rock if they lose one motor. Granted octo-copters are better, but still a little too unsafe to put people on for my liking. Without parachutes that is. :)
G+_Eddie Foy
610bob That auto rotate on a real chopper is pretty damn cool.
G+_Phil Chung
What's the advantage of something like this compared to a helicopter?
G+_Eddie Foy
Phil Chung its got +10 cool factor, +2 health, and -5 defense.
G+_Phil Chung
Eddie Foy I just think a helicopter would be more fuel efficient as the rotors wouldn't need to spin so fast to generate lift. And helicopters can be cool :-)
G+_610GARAGE
Wayne Hobbins You also loose lifting capacity, so it may start falling without those 2 motors. And a quad without enough motors is like a rock, it tumbles as it falls (I think we can all relate to this :) ). At Least with a helicopter, it will fall more or less straight down. But yea, it could lose two motors and land unharmed.
G+_rob bennett
It runs BorrisB's betaflight with a naze32 I hear ?
G+_Joshua Hamlett
Lights are wrong--Green goes on the right and red on the left, not green in back and red in front. An electronic failsafe could be configured to allow it to fly on just 2/4 opposite sets of rotors, provided there is enough lift.
G+_Larry Havenstein
Its only safe if moving forward. I would think they would need to follow normal aircraft lighting. Deal is does China have different rules?
G+_Eddie Foy
Joshua Hamlett I brought the colors up a while back and got shot down in a BIG way. I agree use the lights per the aeronautical standard, Green Starboard (right) Red Port (left) and White Aft (back) Surprised that's not in the FAA regs for 'drones'
G+_Matt Leo
Wayne Hobbins Yeah I laughed about how they claimed you won't have to register it as a drone. No it's not a drone it's going to be classified more along the lines of a helicopter and even though "autonomous" they'll require manual controls in order to be flown in the US. Even then it'll probably have a requirement of no flights over populated areas.
G+_Steve C
Wow a life size drone! I don't have room to even fly a small one without crashing into stuff, just imagine what this would do! And when it crashes upside down like they always do how do you pick it up again?

G+_Steve C
That must have just been created as a publicity stunt. Surely nobody would be stupid enough to ride in it would they?
G+_Larry Havenstein
If you watch the company's video on the octo-copter yes they are dumb enough to fly in it. They start the vid off showing crashes of home made aircraft and claim this is safer.
