G+_Ron Nichols
As a beginner, I love...wait...LOVE my Syma X5C1. I thought I would be able to control a quad, out of the box, with no problems. I was terribly wrong and thank God I didn't do as my impulse suggested, and buy a bigger more expensive quad. Like a noob, my first flight was in my back yard. 15 minutes later, I'm knocking on someones door 2 blocks away, trying to find my quad. I have thrashed this quad (unintentionally) and it keeps working. Now that I'm relatively proficient, I've bought extra batteries, taken it apart and put it back together, replaced props, replaced motors, tore apart the Tx, soldered wires, etc., all with the knowledge that if I brick the quad or lose it, I'm only out ~$35 worst-case scenario. This has not only taught me a lot, but inspired further learning (it's the reason I joined this group!). I was flying it today in strong wind and was confident in my ability to control the quad. This would not have been possible when I first started. In summary, no matter where you envision yourself ending up with this hobby, the X5C1 is a great place to start.
