G+_Stuart Tavener
Here's a thought about the new tech news 2night show, and in fact probably relates to tech news today. If it is a daily show, why broadcast an episode number, surely the date is the most important thing for news shows? Are they not trying to escape the podcast label and move into the Internet TV arena? Ps. Loving some of the more concise format shows, in contrast to the 2 hour rambling shows (which I still also love).
G+_Devin Baines
Keeps the urls for direct downloads short and easy to find. Leo has explained this on numerous occasions for all TWiT shows.
G+_Gary Light
But I said "broadcast" not "publish". In the intro to the Show they say 'this is episode number xx', not necessary in my opinion. This is not said on TV or radio daily news shows.
G+_Devin Baines
Broadcast is not particularly relevant (yet). The vast majority of TWiT's audience (north of 85%, last I heard) is via audio-only download, then video download and a very small minority watch live. G+_Gary Light
Still just as relevant for audio, IMO.
G+_Nathan Christensen
I absolutely agree that the episode number is a trapping of the podcast world. I don't buy that the episode number is more efficient simply because it cuts, at most, five digits out of the URL (but after 9 episodes it's only 4 and most of these shows are in triple digits so that's only 3 then you have Autumn when it gets down to 2 for most of the episodes.) The episode number presumes status based on quantity. I want the show to stand on quality. You've brought up a great point Gary Light
