G+_Marko Turunen
Hi. I'm in the UK where we have chip and pin for card payments. I hear that in the US its not taking off due to it being very slow. In the UK in most shops it's almost instant and I would say that unless there is a problem it takes less that 5 seconds, and in some shops it's 1/2 second. Why is it so slow in the US? I hear reports it can take 15 seconds to authorise the payment. Thanks. :-)
G+_Stephane Duteriez
I am from France and I was wondering the same. Swapping your card, wait for the ticket to print, sign it and give it back seems to be far longer. For small purchase I wouldn't even wait for the ticket to be print. G+_Brian Barcus
Those of us in the US who are standing and waiting have the same question. I suspect the culprit is poorly implemented protocols and slow connections back to the authorizing agent. But, the speed is only the second worst thing in our chip cards - they are signature based instead of a PIN so anyone can just scribble on the terminal and use a stolen card. G+_Ian
In some small old speciality shops where the card isn't used much I think it uses a dialup connection and is slow. This video shows how insecure it is as well..... But my main point of this post is the reported speed issues. :-)
G+_Peter Phillips
They stripped half the security features by leaving out a pin. Really half-assed implementation.
