G+_Steven Balk
Question, when setting up a second access point, should that AP have the same SSID as my main Access point? also does it need its own password, or does it use the password as the main access point. thanks
G+_Michael Kerr
I would use the same SSID and keep the uname and passwd the same to make administration easier.
G+_Terrence Yellowquill
Same ssid same encryption and password and turn off DNS off "slave" router and plug into back of main
G+_james robinson (radiati
If using the same ap's they should be the same. You may still have some clients that won't switch by themselves. I have had issues with some devices (most recently the chrome cast) not being routable when on the othwr ap. It will depens on the clients mostly. If you do have trouble just use two separate ssid's and manually switch.
G+_Steven Balk
hmm, not sure what is going on. i have my cisco e4200 router set to bridge mode, and set to the same SSID. Any reason it wont let me set up WEP security. Now it looks like my network is open.
G+_Michael Kerr
With WEP it may as well be open. That said, have you checked the manufacturer's documentation or tried contacting them?
G+_Dave Hart
I understand you should also have the 2 routers set to different channels.
G+_Russ Hall
Yes, it will have its own password to access the admin interface, but it should use the same password for users to connect to the network.
G+_Ben Tyger
You want the SSID and the WEP/WPA passphrases the same on both APs. You also may want to make sure the two different AP are using the different major wireless spectrum channels. This way they don't choke each other. If the APs support different speed levels. i.e. one AP Supports 802.11n and the other doesn't you may want to use different SSID. Some wireless NIC management software has issues with the same network using different technology levels.
