G+_Hal Gailey
Ep. 114. Hey guys i might be misremembering but if the kano is the kickstarter i'm thinking of, the build was not the selling point. It was meant to teach people how to code. Reducing the barrier to entry and making coding more accessible and easier to start learning. Linus Tech Tips made mention of it and were quite excited about on a recent episode of The WAN Show. But, i may be thinking of another million plus kickstarter.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
That'w what I thought... but if you look at the Kano website, the VERY first thing you see is "It's a computer -- and you make it yourself" -- They're definitely playing up the "build it yourself" aspect of the Kano. In fact, you have to scroll through 6 different pages before you finally get past the, "build the case /// build the speaker /// look at the keyboard" advertising and find the coding part. Even then... the ONLY reference they make to coding is "Make Games // Change the rules". So they may have sold people on the "teach your kids to code" aspect of the Kano... but that's definitely not what they've delivered.
G+_Hal Gailey
That's very true of the site. I think most of the hype I've been hearing have been from backers of the kickstarter. And I believe thru the kickstarter the focus was very heavy on coding. I didn't catch it before it was already famous and finished. But, I trust the people I've been hearing speak on it, and they reference the kickstarter, in point of fact I haven't heard a single reference or even link mentioned to the site, but tons of commentary on the kickstarter campaign and learning coding. I was late to the party so that's all second and third hand, but from what I heard was the campaign and kickstarter success was due to the coding focus over a rasbpi build. On a secondary note, from what I've seen 150 isn't a bad price for what you are getting. The people I heard unboxing their deliveries were impressed by quality and components and while you can get components for a low price most of the decent ones out there do push your bottom line a bit. G+_Hal Gailey
Yeah the kickstarter page itself and the wiki are more informative. "A computer and coding kit for all ages, all over the world. Simple as Lego, powered by Pi. Make games, learn code, create the future." Head tagline from the Kickstarter
