G+_Steven Kaplan
Episode 119: Download YouTube Videos I am a Windows 7 user and used VLC to help download YouTube videos as described in this episode. I found that some of the videos were encoded with a VP8 codec which VLC recognized but which Windows Media Player did not until I installed the codec. I found instructions for installing WebM codecs here: http://www.webmproject.org/ie/ http://www.webmproject.org/ie
G+_Ben Reese
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ?, I had a question about this method too... What information is VLC able to access that a video downloader can't? If it's too much work for Google to block this VLC method, why wouldn't another app do the same thing? G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
VLC gets the raw file. It hasn't been touched by any of the YT transcoding. On the con side, it means that you can also DL bids that were uploaded with crap codecs. (WebM)
G+_Damien Quirk
Any idea how to do this with OSX? No tools menu and network stream fails with the YouTube Wrapper URL...
