G+_Sterling Kohel
Does anyone have any idea what this component is? This was found by a friend in an amplifier on a channel that was not working. We have not been able to find anything about it.
G+_Tauno Erik
Fuse??
G+_Tim Smith
This looks like a component marked for a Marshall Artist 30watt Amplifier. - Model 4203. You might want to check out this schematic. thetubestore.com - www.thetubestore.com/lib/thetubestore/schematics/Marshall/Marshall-JCM800-Artist-30W-4203-Schematic.pdf and compare that to what you are looking at. G+_James Hughes
A - 30 could it be a 30 amp fuse? From the shape it kinda looks like a limit switch. But not sure that makes any sense, fuse seems more likely. Especially if that channel isn't working.
G+_Paul Hutchinson
It looks like an old style bi-metallic thermal shutoff device but typically those are in a power supply section rather than an audio path section.
G+_John Sullivan
What brand of amplifier. You said "on a channel that was not working", so that means the amp has more than one channel? Like a stereo amplifier rather than a guitar amplifier?
G+_Michael Whalen Jr
It looks like a limit switch. But I think it's 30 amp circuit breaker
G+_Ottmitch
Hey guys, thanks for the responses, I'm the friend this post was for. The amp was a NAD 7125 stereo amp. Actually I managed to learn a few things about the component and got my amp fixed. Everyone was circling it, I'm not sure what the technical name is but it's basically an automatic fuse or circuit breaker. It works basically as Paul described a few posts up. Some local technicians suggested I pop a 3 amp fuse in there and function should be more or less equivalent. I did that and so far it's working great. NAD finally responded and are no longer offering that part but have as replacement. unfortunately it will cost 30 bucks to get to me. I'm going to stay with my current fix unless it gives me problems.
