I just can't get over how amazing the HTC One phone is.

I played with a Galaxy S4 the other day, and perhaps it's more preferred taste, but the S4 felt too gimmicky to me. Everything from the onslaught of useless(?) features to the water drop sounds.

I'm sure the debate on S4 vs. HTC One is a hot one - interested to hear other opinions in the TWiT army.

I have a GS3 and I agree with your gimmicky comments. When I went to get my daughter a new iPhone, I was drooling over the HTC One. The Rep said he had 4 returned in the first week over call quality. Anecdotal evidence, but it stopped me from getting one.

I got my HTC One about a month ago.  My fiance has been going on and on for months that she had been convinced by her friends to get an iPhone.  We'd both been using Evos, but she'd had an iPhone 3 before that.

Coming home with a broken screen one night, I admitted defeat and took her straight to the Apple store at our local mall.  The people there were extremely helpful and informative (some of them I actually knew personally, but I expect this from Apple stores in general).  She picked up an iPhone 5 and started playing around with it.  It was nice, shiny, and what she'd been coveting for some time.

Then she asked to see my One.  She looked at it, held it directly next to the iPhone, and just shook her head.

"I want your phone."

I asked if she wanted to think about it for the night.  We thanked the guy at the Apple store (again, zero pressure, a real pleasure to shop there) and went through the mall to the Best Buy Mobile store.  In there, I had her take a look at the Galaxy S4, just to see the alternative to One.  I suppose I could've also had her look at an Windows 8 Phone, but...  I knew better that it wouldn't meet her needs.  The feel of the all-metal One, just the general setup of Sense, I guess, appealed to her more.

I almost (almost!) wish she'd just gone with the iPhone, because her face has been buried in her new One non-stop since we got it.  She absolutely loves it.  The biggest difference for us is the internal storage, which we ran into huge problems with on the Evo (me less so since I'd put CyanogenMod on mine).  Our batteries last us throughout the day easily, and I don't miss having an SD slot so far.  Adding to this the new Google Play Music subscription, and some other niceties of Jelly Bean, I just could not be happier with my choice in it.

The one thing I missed that the Evo had was the kickstand.  So I bought a case that had one.  Actually works a bit better.
