This isn't strictly Android related, but it has been discussed on the show before and the AAA audience is the group most likely to use Google Voice. So... Is anyone else disappointed that GV seems to be withering from lack of attention?

I share Kevin Purdy's frustrations with Google Voice. I haven't bailed, per se. But I also haven't pushed my use of GV the way I used to.

Until a few months ago, I used Sprint and integrated that number with GV. My company provides a cell phone, but I'd been expensing my personal one. I finally decided to port my Sprint number to GV and get a company-provided Verizon phone. I have GV send calls to my work cell.

It really has been disappointing that the one number that I want everyone to know doesn't work so well because it is backed by GV. I miss photos my family send via mms. Call quality sometimes sucks. I can't really say goodbye because I don't have anywhere to port my number to. So, I settle. But I don't want to have to settle.

I hope they improve it, rather than kill it or let it live in its current state.

Kevin Gamin - My understanding is that they are dropping some of the support for certain standards, making devices like the ObiHai phone broken and at the same are rolling it in with Google Hangouts and adding MMS support.

If you spend a large amount of time Googling, there are very few "official" sources to tell you what is happening.

Joseph Cappellino The MMS support is probably my biggest concern. So fingers crossed.

Cole Brodine Great point! I've got an OBI100 that becomes useless in May. Though one can use the devices with other services, it kind of defeats the "one number to rule them all" thing I was going for.

Tom Gehrke - There are a few people who have found some work arounds for the OBI. Apparently you can connect it to some services that give free New York City phone numbers and forward your Google Voice to one of those numbers.  I don't actually own one, but have seen reference to it in a few of the posts I've found while searching for MMS support.

I'm concerned that my Locale GVoice settings app will stop working.  I'm forwarding my phones based on location currently.  I have a home phone that is bundled with my internet and is essentially free and a desk phone at work.  Using the location services, my home phone won't ring while I'm not at home so my wife isn't disturbed.  I also have voicemail at work which always races my GVoice, so I like it to only ring if I'm actually at work.  (I can't deactivate my work voicemail with our system there)

Kevin Gamin - Thanks!  My wife and I have some costumes we have worn for various activities, but these were from one of those old-timey photo places that overcharge you on vacation.  I am a sucker for those for some reason.

Better to wither in a status quo than to have Google decide to get rid of it like Google Reader. There are probably millions of people with Google Voice numbers (certainly thousands and thousands). I paid $20 to port a number there, so if they decided to get rid of the service they'd better come up with some plans on free porting elsewhere, and plenty of time to do it.
