G+_Jon Shipman
Heads up, the 4.3 update for the GS4 removes the ability to write to the sdcard.
G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
Well that's sure stooopid - I wonder what they did that for!
G+_Alex Kruger
Why would they do that?
G+_Jon Shipman
It was a change Google brought in with Honeycomb, only system apps can write to the SD card. This is just the first stock phone to come out that has an sdcard slot. Which is a pitty as I just bought a 64GB card. Sdcards are classed as media and apps need the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission, but this permission is only applicatable to system apps? It worked in 4.2.2 because it still had a Samsung hack in place. So now its MORE stock.
G+_Lucas Nichols
Maybe samsung will fix it. The s4 software originally wouldn't let u write to the sd card either. After it was out for a month is when samsung fixed it. ?
G+_Jon Shipman
Lucas Nichols that was a separate issue. The TW GS4 got an update to install apps to the sdcard (which won't come to the GPed because Sammy is basically porting a Gingerbread app for that to work). This is literally unable to save emulator ROM states because your ROMs are on the sdcard. Unable to copy your DCIM folder for archiving because you filled up the internal storage. You can't even create a new folder in a filemanager. And I've had some quirks deleting files with mtp.
G+_Jon Shipman
Someone mentioned on AndroidCentral that they called Samsung and the official word is if they'll get enough calls Samsung will readdress it. 1-888-987-4357 is their number. Call them and ask for SDCard write support for the GT-I9505G
G+_Jon Shipman
Just an update, the person I talked to said that it was a new feature of Android 4.3. I told them I didn't like the feature of locking me out of the SDCard. He said he'd escalate it and they'd look into the issue.
G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
I have a sort of a tech minded magic 8 ball that I got from CDW once... Once of the answers it gives is, "It's not a bug but a feature." LOL! :-)
