I think everybody by now knows Leo is a fan of Chrome OS. What he says often makes sense for people not needing all the complications of a PC. I know people, who fit that description. I am curious about Chrome OS and often think to buy the Asus Chromebox, but have not yet taken the plunge.

 

What you can't help but notice is that while Leo is a fan he is not really happy with just Chrome OS on his Chromebooks and installs Linux, which makes he wonder if it's more do as I say, not as I do.

 

I suspect if I bought a Chrome device it would be not as a primary system, but something to tinker with and of course also install some distro of Linux.

Just a thought if you own an old pc. Might want to consider Chromium OS.

I have yet to try it. But I've been using different varieties of Ubuntu on and off for 11 years now on multiple pc's.

I recently did take a look at Chromium by way of booting to an install on a thumb drive, but I didn't have the desktop experience of Chrome OS, just the browser, or so it seemed to me. I wonder if you truly get the Chrome OS experience if you actually install Chromium.

Charles Griffin My understanding yes.Just with less media codecs then you would with Chrome.

Leo has often said that for the majority of the normal people a chromebook is all they need, and I agree. But Leo likes to tinker with technology.
