G+_Aaron Bishop
After watching c101 ep 88 I wanted to share some opinions about kids today and what opportunities they have for learning CS/EE and I figure there's plenty of crossover with the KH community. While I agree that Google has made it terribly easy to get any answer instantly, I don't think that should be a hindrance. We should be teaching kids to ask questions, not teach them to answer questions. Kids have more opportunities than ever for discovering how and why computers work because of the explosion in micro controllers like Arduino and the Pi. My suggestion: give a kid interested in CS a raspberry pi loaded with Arch Linux Arm or Gentoo and give them a link to the Wiki. Then give them ideas for what they can do. Using Arch or Gentoo means that A) they have to get comfy with the console and B) they have to RTFM to get anything done.
