G+_Wayne Black
Speaking of worm gears, you might find this interesting. 12 sets of 50:1 worm gears. With the first gear spinning at 200RPM it would take over 2 TRILLION years for a single revolution at the end of the machine. It's no wonder math makes my head hurt. :-) http://makezine.com/2012/04/25/arthur-gansons-machine-with-concrete/
G+_Wayne Black
Although this is an interesting "Work of Art" concept, in reality as the slack was taken up in all the gears, the grub screws would simply start to shear. They wouldn't be able to stand the tremendous torque resulting in the last worm gears.
G+_610GARAGE
Wayne Hobbins What do you mean. If you have a motor that generates one inch pound, it would only produce 20,345,052,080,000,000,000 foot pounds. :) It would be a really good Trillion year clock though.
