G+_Mike Meyer
If your okra is slimy, it's because you boiled it. That's up there with using the wrong polarity power supply on the list of things to not do. It should be breaded and fried, commonly cut into ½ inch segments, though it's fine whole. It's a required side for a proper Oklahoma bbq plate.
G+_Robert Hafer
That slime is what thickens gumbo.
G+_Mike Meyer
True, putting it in a gumbo that way is another good use for it. But eating it boiled as a side dish is just wrong.
G+_Reed Hanson
Fried okras is the best! Put some Frank's Hot Sauce powder in the mix, make for a nice treat.
G+_Jason Marsh
When the wife and I go out to dinner, if there's fried okra on the menu, one of us has to get it. To tell the truth, though... I secretly loathe sharing mine. She should get her own! :)
