G+_Mark Bratanov
I was thinking of buying an Apple TV (it makes more sense than a Chromecast for me because I have more Apple products). Should I buy it now or is it possible that Apple might announce an update in one of their upcoming keynotes?
G+_Tim Allen
Word is September 10th Apple will make announcements, and they may have another event in October too (if they do like last year). Who knows if they will update AppleTV then, but since we're so close now, I'd personally wait just in case...
G+_Danish Singh Brar
I think I'll just wait until the iPhone announcement, not the later one.
G+_Dave Trautman
I recommend you wait a bit. I believe there are going to be some new things for the A-TV in software in addition to a new box which is geared toward using Apps. I think "they cracked it" in an unexpected way which will draw out the providers and producers toward direct payment for their properties where everyone else offering D-TV is under contract. It's about getting apps which are made specifically for a producer/distributor and not a "channel" or service. Tough to crack but worth doing. As to timing, I think I'm seeing all the other box makers trying to add to their holdings because they know something is about to shake it all up. People forget there was a huge debate about 'renting' versus 'buying' when the iTunes/iPod service was launched. Everyone in this sector is trying to tie up as much material as they can before the big shift happens. When I read ESPN is in "talks" with net providers then I can see the change will be coming soon (maybe in 2014) and it won't be long now for Apple to step out from behind the curtain and do its magic show. Right now Disc is dead. In about 5 years Cable is dead. But that's just me. Definitely hold out for the 1080 Apple TV. I'm using a 720 and it's great but not permanent. 4K video is coming. Not right away but it is coming (see Mac Pro ads) and I think the Apple TV will be the first to include it. Long before the content is there. For those owning a huge TV this will change everything. G+_Brian S
If all else fails, you can pick up refurbished 3rd Gen Apple TV units directly from Apple for $75.00....
G+_Chris Holt
Jim Jam Chromecast is not any more or less affected by people using the local network than any other streaming player, and if your local network is crowded enough to affect Googlecasting a tab, then you are going to have trouble with everything. G+_Dave Trautman
Streaming to the AppleTV from either my Pad or my MacBook Pro is seamless and beautiful.
