G+_Daryl Hunt
Market share means sales and sales mean profit, so yes I am sure Apple takes a passing interest in its market share
G+_James Rogers
It's never been that simple with Apple, though. They've always been a premium manufacturer, and have always made what they saw as higher quality devices, and then charged accordingly for them. While other companies chased marketshare numbers with a race to the bottom in the PC market with netbooks, Apple went the opposite direction and instead made the MacBook Air the best portable laptop on the market. We see bow that ended up. Netbooks are dead, and PC manufacturers are only now getting to the same level with ultrabooks. Now, while Apple made a nice profit off their hardware because the charge a premium price for it, they still have only a modest share of computer sales. The same has applied mobile up until now. Apple hasn't joined the race to the bottom with all of the Android OEMs. They made premium devices, and simply offered older models as less expensive versions. It's been 6 years now, and Apple doesn't have a majority of phone sales in the US, and they are well off the pace worldwide. Yet, they are sitting on billions in cash reserves thanks to iPhone and iPad profits. Device profits over pure marketshare. I'm just saying that Apple is shifting gears now because of how their strategy is playing out everywhere outside the US. It works fine here at home with subsidies making top smartphones more affordable. Worldwide, that isn't the case. Now, Apple seems to be making moves with the iPad Mini and the iPhone 5C that are less about device profit, and more about getting more share abroad. G+_John Clark
They have to pivot as they cannot credibly make the claim of a premium device.
G+_James Rogers
Please. The market and people with good sense disagree.
