Non-Android Google Now

There have been rumors about Google Now coming to Chrome (OS and Browser) and as an app for iOS. That is interesting in and of itself, but raises a question.

If Google Now is available on iOS, for instance, does that weaken the Android brand? Right now GN is a big selling point for Android so giving that away seems like a bad idea.

Or it would be if Google were only in the device market. But since these products can be seen as gateways into your personal data and metrics, getting GN everywhere would be in Google's best interest (a la Amazon's Kindle strategy).

Admittedly, there's a part of me that doesn't want to share the Google Now goodness. But there's another part that would love to have GN available everywhere.

Was curious to see where everyone else falls.

I am with Jeff Jarvis on this one.  Basically, Google wants data, and Android is just a means to said data.  Also, Google is an Internet company, and iOS devices make up a large percentage of Internet traffic.  As Jason Howell has said many times on All About Android, they would be remiss not to release this on both mobile platforms.  So, it makes sense for them to release an iOS client.  This is our Instagram, and we will have the, "We had it first."

The only problem I see for Google is a technical one.  As far as I know, iOS does not support backgrounded apps as well as Android.  This might pose a problem for trying to collect location data when not in the foreground.

I want to expand on Joseph Cappellino comment.  Google is all about data but also is all about services to tailor for people.  They would be remiss to not release on iOS as Google Now is another app like Gmail or Maps.  The thing to remember also is as it might seem to some to weaken Android not being an exclusive feature, it is also something that could weaken Siri and therefore drive iOS users into the arms of Android devices come the end of their contracts.  I know people who never used Siri but when they saw the various things with Google Now and how well it worked on a phone, they switched to a Jelly Bean Android phone.
