G+_Scott Shipp
Getting a new phone and I do not want a contract, narrowed it down to 2... Google Nexus 4 for $350 or iPhone 5 for $650 (16 GB versions)? I am a heavy iTunes user but I don't plan to use the phone for content consumption (we have several iTouches and iPads for that). Your thoughts would be appreciated.
G+_Scott Shipp
Good Point Tim... is breaking the iTunes DRM a huge pain so my iTunes purchases will work on the Nexus?
G+_Dan Phillips
I would think it would be better to wait for the 5s announcement. No idea what its going to offer but I'm sure there will be some improved specs. If anything, it may cause the price of the 5 to drop a bit. G+_Scott Shipp
Good point... my problem is I currently just use a company provided phone and I now need to get a personal phone in the next couple of weeks so i will not be able to wait for the next thing. G+_Michael Coffman
I use both Galaxy Nexus (personal) and iPhone 4s (work). I like Nexus better as an all-around phone/device - the iPhone feels less "open". I'm heavily vested in the Google world, too, and I love the integration between phone and Google's services. That said, there isn't much in the Android ecosystem that touches what's available on iOS as far as media creation (i.e., photography, video, music apps). One thought on iTunes - I ended up uploading about 12,000 iTunes tracks (most of which were CD rips or Amazon mp3, so I didn't have DRM issues) to Google Music, and that works fine as far as on-phone media. It streams well, too. However, I haven't bought much music in the past 8 months due to Spotify, which is well worth the 10 bucks a month for a subscription. Works with either device - iOS version is better.
G+_Scott Shipp
T-Mobile is making the choice more interesting. It looks like they are selling the phone for $579.00 instead of $650.00. Are there any factors I should consider between buying the phone from t-mobile instead of directly from apple?
G+_Michael Coffman
Scott Shipp Engadget had a short article on "from Apple" vs "from T-Mobile" a few weeks ago: http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/26/iphone-cost-comparison-649-from-apple-579-from-t-mobile/
G+_Scott Shipp
Thanks Michael Coffman... that helps alot. I am leaning towards buying the iPhone outright from t-mobile for $579.00 so it is unlocked and just pay for my data plan w/o a contract.
G+_Scott Shipp
Gil Edwin DoubleTwist looks like the solution I need (and save $280). I hear that the iPhone 5 camera is a lot better than the Samsungs or Nexus camera. Do you think the iPhone 5's camera is that much better to warrant the extra expense?
