G+_Michael ONeal
Hey, I got this email today, my first thought was it is spam/phishing for info. But then I got a more legit looking email from UbiSoft saying one of their "Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems" now I am not sure if it was a legit email from Google or not. Anyone have any thoughts?
G+_Christopher S.
Think it's spam, but forward it to google they might be able to tell you.
G+_Matthew Zier-Vogel
Thanks, glad my first instinct was correct.
G+_Jason Scalici (Jay)
"To protect your Email! account information" the exclamation on email is your give away that this is fake
G+_Matthew Zier-Vogel
No Simon Cousins I didn't open the PDF, though I doubt it would do anything on a tablet. Jason Scalici the from email address is what got me suspicious but I guess Google probably wouldn't use an ! either.
G+_Jason Scalici (Jay)
Do you have 2 step verification enabled. If not, you should. Great way to protect the account.
G+_Matthew Zier-Vogel
I tried it but it was a pain to use with phone apps, even the Google apps.

G+_Jason Scalici (Jay)
Once it's set up it won't ask anymore. Unless you factory reset.
G+_Armando Saldierna
It's very obviously spam. The email didn't come from Google. Google doesn't refer to Gmail in that rainbow of colors and they would never send you a pdf of your Gmail account info. Opening up that email on your tablet won't compromise it either. The pdf would have to be written in a way that it would infect android and not windows which it most likely is.
G+_Paul M Edwards
I regularly install the semi-nightly Android Open Kang Project ROM builds on my Galaxy S3. I also had reservations about using 2-factor authentication on my phone. I found that using LastPass to keep a secure note containing a list of one-time passwords generated during the Google security setup and using one of the one-time passwords to initially authenticate my phone with my Google account each time after installing the ROM works well. It requires that I have access to an Internet connected PC, which is a minor inconvenience for major security improvement.?
G+_Rohan Sharma
It's a spam. Didn't gmail mark it as spam by itself ?
G+_Tyler Larson
ROFL: "If this wasn't you, please view and download your attached account PDF file..." Because PDF files are the way to secure your account.
G+_Matthew Zier-Vogel
No Rohan Sharma it wasn't marked as spam came to my priority inbox.
G+_Rohan Sharma
Matthew Zier-Vogel I am no longer sure if its a spam or not. Although gmail will never send a PDF that is for sure.
G+_Darío Santacruz
Hahaha no doubt this was a scam. You made my day, it's been a long time since I saw one of these.
G+_Nicholas Layton
I would expect a scam like that to include a link to an official looking page but with a bogus url where you could (and should) change your password, and all you have to do is enter your current password and new password. G+_Darío Santacruz
Get 2step verification activated. It has improved a lot in the last semester.
G+_Luke Olson
Paul Edwards signing in to Android no longer requires one time passwords it works perfectly with 2 factor
G+_Rohan Sharma
Yes but you still need 2 step when signing in from older versions of android.
G+_Paul M Edwards
I still have to follow the process above on the latest Android Open Kang Project nightly builds which are #Android 4.2.x.
