Who thinks Google should buy Essential?

Andy will once more be part of Google. The Essential phone will become the Pixel phone. And no more usage of HTC or LG (with all its compromises). Google controlling the full-stack of the phone making process.

*UPDATE*

I am curious to hear about the reasons for disagreement

Ok, interesting points. E. Gerry Murray? I see it that Google has collab'd with a lot of OEMs, but they never REALLY had the chance to do it themselves. Figured they finally did when they bought Motorola. That didn't work out....

Qban Celli? did Google push him aside?

Ken Keyes.sr I kind of see your point. Google really doesn't have a face or personality to associate with their devices or services like Apple did with Jobs. I'm not sure if it is a good or bad thing.

I do know that I'm not very comfortable with Google these days and am seriously considering how to break our reliance on Google products and services.

They have quite a lot to do before my confidence and trust is fully restored. That isn't easy as I'm an Android enthusiast and am fully immersed in the Google ecosystem, smart home and all. I'd like to see a shake up of leadership myself.

E. Gerry Murray I do not share the sentiment of unconfortability. That comes from the point that I do not have all the Google products. But if I see Google's biggest competitor, Samsung doesn't have a face and yet they outsell all the Android OEMs. If you are talking face of Android they are definitely it! You go to a regular consumer and ask them if they have an Android, they would 8 out of 10 times say they dunno, they have a Samsung.

Meaning that we the "enthusiast" worry about face of a brand, when I think we should aim to reach the best phone for the money and let availability and support along with marketing make the people aware of the brand. That is why I think Google should buy an OEM with its own manufacturing and build a cohesive marriage of software and hardware.
