G+_Tom Thomas Jr
I am looking into getting myself a new tablet. I purchased a $50 Amazon tablet when they came out a couple months ago just to give it a try. While I like the size for myself, I am not a big fan of the Fire OS (I mainly bought it for my daughter to watch prime videos). Having to side load the Google Play Store and Play Services to get all the apps that I want is fine, but I would much rather have something with a stock Android OS. I plan on buying a Nexus 6p within the next few months, so I don't want to spend a fortune on a tablet. I was looking at the 2013 edition of the Nexus 7, but am unsure if Google will be keeping it up to date and if it still holds up as being a "great tablet" even 2 years after release. Any thoughts on the Nexus 7 or recommendations on a tablet in the 7" to 8" range?
G+_Ed Woodward
Nvidia shield is a great tablet. They have said it will get marshmallow but nothing is certain. There is a rumor about a new version coming out soon.
G+_Derek McAllister
I'm on my second Acer 8". You'll never see an update from what they run when you get it, but for $140 or less you get a decent tablet. Fairly stock android especially of you install the Google launcher... G+_Tom Thomas Jr
I am leaning towards the Nexus 7 (32gb), for about $150-$170. Just checking to see if there are any recommendations around the $200 range for a 7"-8" that will be pushed updates in a timely fashion. Unlike my Galaxy s5 that is still running 5.0! My wife has a 10" Samsung that she loves, but it's too large for what I want.
G+_Dan Kerschen
I'll soon get a shield k1, a lot of bang for your bucks. Many positive reviews so far. But the Nexus 7 is an awesome tablet too, I've got 2 of those (old and new version)
G+_maryann dolbeare
I have both the 2012 and 2013 Nexus tablets.. love both although the 2012 has slowed down a lot.. have the Kindle Fire and a Windows 8... both are hateful little bastards compared to the Nexus.... G+_John A
Tom Thomas Jr? I have the the 2nd gen Nexus 7 and the Nexus 9. Both are running Marshmallow, and I can say without doubt, that the Nexus 7 is running better. Too much lag on the 9. I don't think you can go wrong at that price for the 7. Just make sure that it's the 2nd gen model.

G+_Tom Thomas Jr
Taz Hoque JohnA Neenan? maryann dolbeare? Dan Kerschen? Well you all have me convinced that the Nexus 7 is the most likely way to go. I did kick around the new Shield, but I wanted to wait until after it was released and there were some reviews on it. One last question regarding the Nexus 7; I will be getting the 2013 gen2 model, but I am wondering if I really need the 32gb model or if the 16gb will be sufficient. I am only worried for OS and app purposes, will it be enough for marshmallow and a good handful of apps? I have plenty of 32gb and 64gb sd cards to add media. Lollipop and Verizon/Samsung bloat ware took up about 11gb or so of my 16gb Galaxy s5, not leaving much wiggle room for apps. And yes, I know that I can move a good bit of them to the sd card, but I would prefer not to. Being stock Android, the Nexus shouldn't have that same issue, right? G+_Tom Thomas Jr
Taz Hoque? Thanks. Now knowing that there is no micro sd, 16gb is out of the question. I think I may do the same and wait until the new year to see what Nvidia does about marshmallow before I pull the trigger. I think Best Buy will also be selling them in stores, so I can actually get my hands on it before I buy.
