G+_Derek McAllister
Hey Jason Howell?, does this price make it worth it? G+_Jason Howell (raygun01)
Sure, I mean... for a few dollars more than a Chromecast you get Android TV and a remote... as well as Chromecast support of course. I think $50 is a good price for this. Be wary, though. Updated Chromecast likely to be announced at the Google event end of month.
G+_Derek McAllister
I've got a Chromecast already (3 actually) and I'm satisfied with it so I'm not concerned with an updated one. I've just been considering this for a gaming system but based on your review was hesitant. Now I might do it... Thanks for the reply!
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Derek McAllister, depending on your gaming habits, you might want to step up to the NVIDIA Shield. From what I hear, it's the best in this department (with a price tag to prove it). If you're just a casual gamer, this will probably be good enough. G+_Derek McAllister
Thanks Joseph Cappellino?, I'm just casual on the gaming front. Only a here and there thing to take up time. Nothing serious...

G+_Christopher Copping
I really really want to see Android TV succeed, but the support from Google seems lackluster. I'm beginning to become concerned that Android TV will go the way of Google TV.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Christopher Copping I'll have to disagree, especially where the Nexus Player is concerned. It's running the current Android version (including the Developer Previews). Also, they are adding framework/OS level support for features that only really apply to TVs (fixed expandable storage that can be utilized for app storage; i.e. - large games). G+_Phillip “Molly” Malone
Isn't there also rumours of a new Nexus Player bring released at Nexus Day on the 29th?
G+_Derek McAllister
That's what I figured caused the price drop Phillip Malone?. I'm not looking to jump right on it, just getting Jason's opinion since he was hesitant on it originally.

G+_Joseph Cappellino
Phillip Malone I think someone decided that was the Chromecast 2. Either way, I'm pretty excited.
G+_Ted Cannelongo
For what it's worth, the grantee code on that device is Google, unlike the original Nexus Player, which was ASUS. The original Chromecast was Google, so I'd be inclined to think this device is in the Chromecast family.
G+_Phillip “Molly” Malone
Ted Cannelongo Joseph Cappellino That could be the case although 4 USB ports for a Chromecast seems a bit much though. Maybe a mistake or something.
G+_Christopher Copping
Joseph Cappellino? I understand what you are saying, and I agree. I guess my biggest complaint is that, after a year, Android TV is only on a hand full of devices. To really give Android TV a fighting chance, I think Google should have partnered with more OEM's a minimum of 50 devices that operate on this OS. I still feel Android TV can catch on, but there needs to be more support for it on the partnership side.
G+_Derek McAllister
The problem with Android TV is that mainstream media is fascinated with Apple products. They are blinded by the marketing machine that is Apple. Google would need to spend most of its resources to battle it in earnest, and I don't think they are ready or willing to do so. A downfall of the do no evil mantra they have.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Amazon must have better negotiators, as they have certain content providers that are not on Android TV (WATCH Disney/Disney Jr., Lifetime, and others). What kills me is that they are both Android, so I can't imagine that it would be so different from one to the other that they couldn't just "recompile" it with minor changes for Android TV. G+_Derek McAllister
The issue there is that most people don't associate Amazon to Android. They believe it to be something completely different because of good marketing. And because of that, organizations such as Disney are willing to work with them a little more ”freely”. Remember, Disney is closely tied to Apple...

G+_Phillip “Molly” Malone
I look at this vicious circle like this: People won't buy Android TVs as they think the App Market place will be weak. Developers won't develop for Android TV as they think Sales will be weak/Market small. People will buy Apple TV as they think there will be plenty of Apps for Apple TV. Developers will build Apps for AppleTV as they believe that sales/market will be good. Google has to do something to break the cycle! GoogleCast, is someways, is a good way to break into the market and hopefully they can find a way to move the market from GoogleCast to Android TV.
