G+_Curtis Stone
Just wanted to throw a counterpoint to Brian's story this week about tracking a device with device manager. The day after my office Christmas party this year my wife couldn't find her phone. No problem, device manager will help us, right? All weekend long it said it was online and located directly at our house. We couldn't find it. Searched all over the house, car, driveway, yard, etc... Nothing. Monday I gave up and ignored device manager and called the venue where the party had been and of course it was sitting on the desk beside the receptionist waiting for someone to come claim it. It might seem like the obvious place to check, but when device manager confirmed all weekend that the device was online and at our location, we took it as fact. Location was on and I checked the device again after picking it up and this time it jumped across the city to the parking lot of the venue I was standing in... I have successfully used it myself on a few occasions, but will be a little more skeptical the next time I need it
G+_Michael Shada
Just a guess, but maybe the location didn't update until it was turned on. (battery saving mode?)
G+_Curtis Stone
That's quite possible. However, the phone was definitely used on the way to and at the party. So it would have the location then. Something caused it to default back to home after that whenever we access dm.
