G+_Joe Loschiavo
Kinda like comparing number of cars sold versus number of vehicles sold. Devices versus Windows Personal Computers, Apples and Oranges, what's that quote about statistics....?
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
First time it has happend And IMHO the Trend won't go back. Mobile will keep out selling wintel not in the low end but in the high end.
G+_Joe Loschiavo
Eng. Jorge Santana Sure but as the article points out Android has been outselling Windows Personal Computers since 2012. I wonder if the "wintel" includes Surface tablets? If you define "high end" as pricey, then certainly Apple has that end of the consumer market. G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
High end means in place of a wintel computer, cheap android where not replacing PC's this divices does replace them because of the price.
G+_Joe Loschiavo
Eng. Jorge Santana last time I saw a number about Apple PC's it was still like 14% of the market. Once you go down the rabbit hole of devices....Laptops, tablets like the Surface, Chromebooks, Servers, it gets more and more like trying to compare apples and oranges. G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
To me it's significant and why Win10 is free, iPhone and iPads are $249-$650 thats computer territory. I really think mainstream PC's not servers etc... Are going to keep being out sold in this range by mobile from now on. No going back in the market IMHO... G+_L I
Win 10 is free because Microsoft botched Win 8 (as well as Windows Phone 7) chasing the wrong kind of customer. PCs have been inefficient for home users for years but it's only in the past 5 years that we have better alternatives. Windows' future was always going to be with business users. But iPhones will never be full replacements for PCs.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Never? At the rate the cpu/Gpu in mobile has been advancing I would not say never. IMHO it's inevitable that it will replace PC in time.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
There are millions of users that will never used a PC but will a mobile device.
G+_L I
Never. They're too small. The people who never use a PC are those in countries without the money and infrastructure to make widespread PC use practical. iPads have a better shot at it especially if they become more like Windows tablets but if they do, at what point does it cease being a mobile device and start being a PC? What does PC even mean in a world with convertible tablets and keyboard docks? This is an interesting stat and does underscore a shift that had already been taking place but I argue that it only means either that people that didn't need a PC won't need to force themselves to get one, or that the appliance-ification of mobile devices helps to ensure that phones are replaced much quicker than PCs.
