G+_Jason Hughes
So, I did a side-by-side cable v cord-cutting cost comparison for this blog post and discovered cutting the cord really only saved me substantial money after year 3 ... Did other CCs out there find this too? #cordcutting http://www.allconnect.com/blog/the-real-financial-and-emotional-cost-of-cutting-the-cord/
G+_Eric Cunningham
I had Netflix and Amazon Prime and high speed internt in addition to cable. Since canceling cable 4years ago I've added roku and my girlfriend bought the Apple TV. We split the cost of Hulu. We did not buy an antenna so we are only able to get one or two over the air channels. For us dropping cable saved us money.? Emotionally, I feel like I have more control over my entertainment and I'm not paying for sports that We don't watch.
G+_Jennifer Pattison Tuohy
completely agree Dennis D. McDonald - not having to watch any / as many commercials makes the cord-cutting experience worth any financial or emotional pain for me! When I've been forced by circumstance to watch a favorite show with commercials it completely ruins the experience. Its clearly prompting a big shift in the way programs are made, as for so long the formula for many TV shows has been to keep people hooked through the commercials. If you go back and watch sit-coms like Friends, they're so contrived compared to some of the newer netflix/internet-only shows.
G+_Jennifer Pattison Tuohy
Eric Cunningham but has your internet bill gone up? That's what got me. The price for high speed internet more than doubled in my first year of cord-cutting, and it keeps going up...
G+_Eric Cunningham
Jennifer Pattison Tuohy yes it has gone up, however, I would be paying for high speed Internet even if I had cable. In my situation I traded a cable bill for a roku, an Apple TV and a Hulu subscription.
G+_Eric Cunningham
Jennifer Pattison Tuohy this is what does concern me and here I think it will get more expensive. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/craig-aaron/net-neutrality-is-dead-he_b_4596355.html?utm_hp_ref=tw
G+_Jennifer Pattison Tuohy
That's true, assuming you need the top tier high speed internet for things other than streaming content ... I've been trying to get by on my lowest tier of internet for a couple months now - in the interests of research - and it's killing me. If my family of four wants to watch two different streaming shows simultaneously my connection takes a nosedive. I'm going to have to jump up to the $125 a month option, which is more than cable's tv/phone/internet package...!
