It just happened to me on the ABC website, and they are not alone in this. Well, Ladies and gentlemen from the Dinosaur Media, know this: there's nothing that will chase me away from your site faster than this aggressive, needless practice. And because I'm stubborn, I won't go back either. Your short sightedness is astonishing. You want to keep people on your web page, not throw a "gotcha" ad at them. Now let's see... ABC News - goes on the garbage pile list. Done.
G+_Jerry Ham
Some of the advertising folks are the same people that think it is OK to have a smiling model with her eyes closed in an ad: https://plus.google.com/100890989013973478703/posts/Zpr5E73Q6u1 Some think it is OK to target people who only speak English with ads in another language: https://plus.google.com/100890989013973478703/posts/hy5fRBAQdYn Others think it is fine to show ads that claim you won a prepaid card (I get that one daily in an app). With such highly brilliant and principled people in the advertising business, it is hard to expect them to not want to annoy the crap out of you. I'm with you: avoid the offenders - it is similar to voting with your wallet.
