G+_George Kozi
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ I recently saw a segment where you talked about the ioSafe Sinology N something. That thing did two things: 1) could receive and store data 2) it was indestructible. The question that immediately popped up in my mind is this: Why aren't these used as black boxes in aviation... or anywhere else a black box could make sense? (even in a car) I'm sure the cost is far less than the black (orange) boxes currently in use, and they may even be just as good. And if they are cheaper, why not put 4 of them in different places of an airplane? That would increase the chance of recovery.

G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Inertia and costs. As Jeff Stevens pointed out, the current systems are certified and proven. There's not enough reason to overcome that Inertia.
