G+_George Kozi
Originally shared by George Kozi There should be a dressed down Google Glass variant that simply plugs into the phone with a wire, and just clips onto a normal pair of glasses. A variant that uses the phone's battery and processing power. We are all used to have wires going from our ears to our phone, because we wear ear-buds all the time. Why not use the gigantic phone battery and the powerful processor we already have in our pocket? Make this simple variant Google, and price it at 200 bucks. Then everybody will want it. G+_John Mink
Weird, I gave up wired earbuds years ago.... I'd hate to go back!
G+_George Kozi
A lot of people prefer them. I use it to listen to music. And by not having a wire on Glass, you pay about 1000$ more and the tech gets really complicated and limited.
G+_John Mink
See, I don't mind the $100 for wireless, but your point about limiting the capabilities is an interesting one.
G+_George Kozi
With Glass, it's about a thousand bucks difference.
G+_John Mink
Which confounds me, $100 I get, $1k, I'm just not seeing it.
G+_George Kozi
It's the prototype premium price thing. The commercial Glass has to be A OL cheaper, like 3-400 bucks it it wants to have a chance in hell to become ubiquitous.
G+_John Mink
Agreed, no way it'll be commercially viable at $1500
G+_Joe Morrison
Eliminating the wire is a pretty small part of the price, probably on the order of $30-50 of the component cost. The majority of the cost of the explorer edition is that it is prototype hardware. What I don't get is why google hasn't made them foldable and why they haven't made them balanced by putting stuff on both sides of the frames. Simply adding a battery pack on the left side would visually balance them and add a lot of battery capacity.
G+_George Kozi
The wire would allow them to use the processing capability and the battery of the phone itself. Those things are already in our pocket. True, it would turn Glass into a peripheral for the phone, but actually... why not?
