The Crazy Hour

Leo Laporte Lisa Kentzell The TWIT programing in the weekends is pretty thin. There is a lot of time available. Have you considered setting aside a few hours per week for guest podcasts?

This would show your support for fellow podcasters, and would enhance TWIT's reputation. After all the President of the Internet could rent out a room of the Palace for a few hours a week. And I'm not talking only tech oriented podcasts, but interesting podcasts on a variety of subjects. (These could be pre recorded.)

If this guest podcast time (the crazy hour) is clearly marked, it wouldn't affect Leo's policy that TWIT is for Tech people and geeks only.  Tech and geek people have other interests also.

I've wanted to do something like this for more than a year, and we have kicked around a few possibilities, but there are some serious issues with the concept.

1. Even if you post a huge disclaimer that it's not TWiT content, put a scrolling lower third saying it's NOT a TWiT podcast, audibly announce that it's not a TWiT show every 30 seconds, and send email to everybody in the TWiT army explaining what's happening, it's still TWiT's stream. That means it's our reputation AND our legal liability on the line, should a guest decide to broadcast questionable material.

2. Regardless of whether the shows are done in-house or over Skype, we'd need at least two staff members in the Brickhouse for the duration. (An engineer and a TD) Their time isn't free... Also, most of our staff is at their resources limit with the current slate of shows, so we couldn't really do it unless we hired a new engineer and TD just to do this "crazy Weekend"

3. It takes a long time to build up the timing between a cast and a TD. You can't just throw a show together without practice. It would be hard to justify that for a show that would be on the network for a limited time.

I'm not saying that these problems are insurmountable, but it's definitely not as simple as turning over the steam to complete strangers. :)

It should be noted that this was done is some form in the last episode of "Padre's Corner" when we invited the Book Guys to do their show as part of PC.
