G+_George Kozi
Originally shared by George Kozi Our electricity provider is installing smart energy meters to all its customers. Aparently these gizmos make it possible to better see how much you consume, and makes reading the meter for billing totally automatic and remote. G+_Jon Beals
Ours offered that as well for free, but the catch was you had to agree to let them auto reduce or increase the temp settings in peak demand times. Meh.
G+_micah child
Jon smud in Sacramento offered a discount to customers who signed up to have their a/c remotely adjusted to help save energy during peak usage times. Its a separate service and device from the smart meters. I think the smart meters communicate back to the central office via a broadband over power lines connection. Too bad most states or cities won't let them provide that broadband access to their customers as a ISP service.

G+_George Kozi
no idea. The company bought them in bulk, vetted them, made the app, and now it is installing them.
