G+_Ruel Smith
Any idea how I can remove the new Hangouts Chrome app from the Windows taskbar? I can't be the one person who is going nuts.
G+_Blake DeVoss
Matthew Moore, good point. I might switch back.
G+_M. L. Hunt
You can't just unpin it from the taskbar? Sorry if I'm missing some weird Win 8 feature. I haven't installed the Hangouts app, but I'm running Stardock Start8, which apparently allows some desktop/taskbar customizations stock Win8.1 doesn't. G+_Eric Shoe
Why does this bother? Unpin it? It's an app now. Alt tab. Hide the task bar? Is your boss going to catch you? I don't understand the problem.....
G+_Matthew Bowen
It's finally an app? Cool. Might be time to retire Google Talk.
G+_Blake DeVoss
M. L. Hunt Eric Shoe It's not pinned. If I have the app running, it shows in the taskbar even though the app stays on top of other windows anyway. If I don't have the app running, I done get notifications. I like to keep my taskbar clean for readability. Links to content that is always visible are redundant.
G+_Andrew Scott
If the Metro App is running in the background it will appear on the task bar.
G+_Andrew Scott
It isn't google, it's a change in Windows 8.1 :(
G+_Andrew Scott
The fact that the image shows a border around it, shows that it is running in the background, Windows WILL always do this on the TaskBar. Only recently did Windows 8.1 Metro Apps now do the same thing. You can't ask Google to fix something that is not related to Google.
G+_Darren Cohen
Chrome is Google's Trojan horse that is trying to take over your Windows and Mac desktops. Also takes up enough memory to make sure you can't run anything else well on either OS! 4GB, 8GB, 16GB.....on any of my 3 systems with different amount of RAM, Chrome eats whatever it can. Used to love Chrome when It came out for being lightweight and fast, now I just use it for certain tasks.
G+_M. L. Hunt
Blake DeVoss I see, and it's a reasonable complaint. Because the app has to be active to provide for notifications, its design should include an ability to run in background or hide when minimized, like e.g. the Windows task manager. G+_Andrew Scott
Haven't used Windows 7 for a long time, but Windows 8, if you RMB on the task bar and go to properties. You can switch it on/off for displaying Metro Apps on the TaskBar. One would assume, Windows 7 would have the same thing.... Yeah Right.... G+_Chris May
This is certainly a reasonable complaint. Applications like Winamp have the option to remove completely or at least minimize to a small icon in the system/notification area (bottom right icons by the clock). G+_David Novak
This very, very sadly seems to be the only solution at the moment: http://www.eusing.com/hidewindows/bosskey.htm The problem is that you can't tell when a message arrives except by the sound. This completely absolutely absurd and insulting problem with Hangouts is most definitely driving me nuts now that talk actually doesn't work anymore. I may just have to switch to a third party app.
G+_David Novak
Jon Labbe Oh cool! Do you have an idea of where I might find an installer for it?
G+_David Novak
Jon Labbe I'm pretty sure they replaced it entirely with the app. I'll keep looking. Thanks!
