G+_James Rogers
Nice article. I would disagree with one point, though. I don't think that photos alone is the reason for the screen ratio being 4:3. It was to balance the screen for use in portrait mode. Most 16:9 tablets feel quite awkward in portrait. 16:10 is better, but still not ideal.
G+_Luke Olson
James Rogers I can't say much on the motives of why they did it, Photos seemed to be the obvious choice while I was using it. I also forgot to mention that it the iPad shoots video in 16:9. Great for having your media be standard but again its black-barred on the device it was made. I found that odd. In my use, portrait mode is the alternate not the standard. The only time I use portrait is for reading books or typing, which 16:9 would work better for (See typing section). The only thing I could really see not working well in 16:9 portrait is the Homescreen, which Apple could make work better. It does work on the iPhone 5, which is 16:9. G+_James Rogers
Steve Jobs actually spoke about this at the initial iPad press conference. He said that they specifically chose 4:3 for balance in reading and other uses in portrait. I tend to use mine pretty equally in each. I type in landscape using a Bluetooth keyboard. When typing on the iPad itself, I always do it in portrait. Easier that way with the mini, at least for me. So I actually prefer the 4:3. All of this is just personal preference, of course. Everybody has their own. I just commented about Apple's choice to go with 4:3 because they did go on record about why they chose it.
G+_Luke Olson
James Rogers agree its all about personal choice. i just have a feeling that they may move to 16:9 in a few generations
