G+_Spiro Floropoulos
The brick house is quite close to Napa. When my wife and I go the brick house for some web dev, we always do some wine touring. That's an obvious one, though. San Francisco itself has some amazing shops and restaurants. Cheese Factory is usually a hit. We're usually happy just to walk around and look at the shops. Just some ideas.
G+_D Lets (LetsLets)
There is also the Wine Train, that runs, I think in the summer. And of course there is SF.
G+_Robert Clark
The North Bay has lots of things to visit on the way to Petaluma. Try the Marin Headlands or visit Muir Woods with the family. Both of these are sure fire places to take amazing photos.

G+_Lisa Laporte
Definitely tour SF - take the double decker bus ride (if weather permits) over the Golden Gate Bridge and sit up top. Alcatraz is a favorite with kids which is located at Pier 39 (tourist area). I also have favorites in Sonoma County - Armstrong Redwoods is exceptional for hiking and horse back riding and Johnson's Beach is nearby.
