G+_David Lane
Project Tango could supercharge Field Trip ... The AAA crew may not have come up with use cases for project Tango but if we were to pull back a bit to Google's mantra of making all information accessible then why couldn't Tango be part of a way to populate and query a database of what is around you at all times. One of the first things that popped up was an app that looked around say a department or grocery store and overlayed info on the different items or groups of items visible to the camera. Since items are usually grouped together with some measure of logic you could "map" out where in the store or where on the aisle you could find stuff you needed or info about that stuff. For food it could be overlays what ingredients are there, where the food comes from etc. Add your diet to the mix if Google has it and you could have a food map of what you should be buying. If you're hipster/tree huggin'/consumer advocate create an app that shows how much goodness or badness is associated with each thing you may buy, either filtered by chemicals, corporate connections, workers rights, up to the minute fair trade status even. Don't even need to scan the UPC to get the info if enough Tango data at that particular location has been uploaded. Anybody with a Tango type gadget could map as they walk creating a fairly accurate view of everything around them all of which could be tied to a Google database of info mapped the "3d sphere" around you. In general Tango is used for input and some crazy version of Field Trip is used to extract and filter the info based only on where your camera is pointing. Attach a bunch of Tango gadgets to a bunch of drones running at different, legally accessible, heights and large chunks of a city at various altitudes are mapped in 3d for easy access to a drone version of street view, call it God View !! On the back end if Google is getting real time updates from various crowd and more formal sources, faces blurred of course, all kinds of things can be tracked over time. Well just a few thoughts on the subject.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
This is great analysis. I think Google has plenty of ideas ready to let loose on Tango. Considering they are trying to bait developers, they want us to come up with ideas, as well! Also, this would be great for creating true-to-life maps for gaming. For example, they can take this data and create a "real" map of a city (similar to what they were doing with the flyover data from a couple of years ago), but with more detail. Exciting times are a comin'.
G+_David Lane
Yup all that stuff. If you saw #Prometheus then you remember the probes that were used. How big a #quad-copter or drone do you need to run a +tango or tango-like device ? Not to big I would think. Just set the a few of these little suckers out for a couple of hours and what couldn't be mapped and what couldn't be done with that map. With bots and humans #Tango or a Tango like service generates a huge #diorama of sorts that changes over time once it's all combined. Add all the photos and other data that Google gets which will now be placed into context with tango data and you now fill in where Tango wasn't at any one time. Every sign, piece of text in front of any lens at any time creates a 4-d map ( 3d plus time ) of what has gone on and theoretical predictions of what could. #Cool stuff but could be #creepy until the Identity question is answered. If Google gives you consistent control of what data is attached to your ID then the creepy factor is reduced. Of course all of this happens in the future in any case it's just who get's there fastest.
