How much money are you saving by cutting the cord?

I wish reporters would include real math with their news articles

The article is misleading just as much as cable companies are. It starts off saying most people pay $90 for cable service then it says you can get cable for just $10 more on top of your internet for a total of $50. It also makes it sound like you get HBO with that $50 deal but what it actually says is you get access to HBO not that it includes HBO. These deals only last for  the first year then you are back to paying $90+

plus I think a lot of cable subscribers already pay for Netflix so dropping cable would definitely save those people money.

I read the NY Times article on my Windows RT tablet last night. I agree with what everyone is saying now. I hope Tom and Brian mention this anti-cord cutting article on their show "Cord killers" tomorrow. I cancelled my cable subscription 2 months ago with Charter Communications . I'm saving around $45.00 a month by just using cable internet for Amazon Instant Video,Crackle,Hulu Plus, and Netflix. Charter just 2 days ago offered a tripple bundle for $70.00 a month. I'm paying $54.99 for just their slow internet of 30mbps before taxes and fees . I declined the offer on the grounds I'm trying to cut back on cable content, not increase it. I also didn't ask how long the welcome back offer would last?

Native advertising much? Including just the "first year" as the comparison prices is BS, most people do think long term.

I'm paying $60 Canadian for 25 Mbit. The TV plan on top was another $40 and that just included basic HD. I would save $10 by bundling too.

I do agree with the articles believe that internet providers will jack their prices once people move to internet only, its already happening. Internet + media companies should never have been allowed to be merged.

We're in an era of telecommunications. Meaning a phone company is not just a phone company. And a cable TV company is not just a cable TV company. They both now offer everything in services and its difficult, if not impossible to avoid their monopoly without competition.Their is a concern if Comcast gets very agressive in pricing and throttles traffic to services like Netflix to make appear Cord Cutting not economical.

Stew McCall no man, it's real, that's going to happen, you can't escape Comcast now, this buy out can't go through, should it violate some kind of monopolistic protection law. This should scare us. in the future when you want internet it'll be $70 and $90 with cable, where now it's $45 and $45. They'll get their money.

The current price of a FIOS bundle (after the introductory price) is about $130/month here.  I have an indoor antenna for 19 digital local channels & LTE service through Sprint so I can get Amazon Prime on my laptop (wi-fi hotspot), so I'm only paying $80 a month for LTE service & free TV, but Amazon Prime costs $79 a YEAR....gets out calculator....I'm saving $521 a year.
